I am excited to introduce my guest poster today, Ren. Ren Ziel is an herbalist, serial tea drinker, earth mama, yoga enthusiast, keeper of the green, and self-proclaimed hedge witch. She’s been in the business of herbs since she was a wee one with plans to continue well into old age. You can usually find her playing in nature with her 10 month old, gardening, or making herbal remedies. Without further ado, here is her easy holiday sugar scrub recipe.
I don’t know about you, but I am ADDICTED to scrubs. I’m not sure where this obsession came from. Perhaps it was growing up on the beaches of Florida. Something about rough sand and lotion on my skin brings back memories. In all seriousness though, scrubs are amazing, and can be amazingly beneficial.
Your epidermis is able to completely replace itself in roughly 45 to 74 days. In young people, the hardest outer layer (also called the stratum corneum) can be fully replaced in about 14 days. Like all things that tend to go with age, as we get older that same layer can take up to 37 days to be replaced.
Scrubs help move this process along. Exfoliating on a regular basis can help with cell turnover, giving you a smoother and refreshing complexion, as well as makes the skin more prone to absorbing other yummy things you wish to put in it ( i.e nutrient dense products, toners, lotions.)
With Thanksgiving coming up I wanted to have a little fun with this recipe.
It’s a sensory delight and the aroma subtly lingers after you’ve washed it off.
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
¾ cup coconut oil
2 tsp powdered cinnamon
2 tsp powdered ginger
2 tsp powdered nutmeg
40 drops cardamom essential oil (optional, but the best part in my opinion)
Melt coconut oil if solid.
In a medium sized bowl, combine all ingredients (sans the essential oil)
Using a whisk, blend all ingredients making sure to break up any and all lumps.
Now add essential oil drop by drop, blending after each addition.
Store in airtight container.
Will last for 6 months.
TO USE: Massage ¼ cup of scrub onto remoistened skin using circular motions. Rinse.
This is such a wonderful smelling scrub and so easy to make. I love the addition of cardamom essential oil to this scrub. Because doTERRA’s essential oils are very strong and concentrated, I ended up using around 30 drops but you could use more or less depending on your preference. Cardamom essential oil is very uplifting and great for soothing sore muscles as well. This is a great gift idea for your holiday hostess or add this to a gift set for your friends this Christmas. This recipe filled 4 (4 oz) Ball Storage Jars.
Head on over to www.rensremedies.com and check out Ren’s haven. She shares herbal remedies and natural DIY projects. Her project, DIY Seed Starters from K-cup Trash is one of my favorites. It is a very creative way to up cycle K-cups.
I hope you enjoy making this easy holiday sugar scrub recipe! What gifts will you make this season? I can’t wait to hear from you!
Until next time,
